Half Term Artsy Round Up

Bristol is really spoiling us with artsy half term activities. Live art, family theatre, beatboxing… whatever your littlies are into, it’s covered!  Here are some of our highlights.

Sat 18th Feb
13:00 – 16:00
Inspired by the current Life of Clay exhibition, children are invited to get squishing and rolling to build their own ceramic tile designs.  A great opportunity to get hands on with clay and discover how it can be used in structures.

ARNOLFINI: We Are Family
Tues 14th Feb – Fri 17th Feb
13:00 – 17:00
FREE (donations welcome)
Join artist Katie Schwab and explore shapes and colours in the auditorium of the Arnolfini.  There’ll also be a chance to create costumes and experiment with lighting. These lovely sessions are aimed at 5+ but in our experience younger kids can get a lot out of it too.

Part of the In Between Time festival, this piece by Sybille Peters is a live art game for kids and adults to play together. Will you remote control an adult, search for miracles or follow a random passer-by? Ages 6+ and you’ll need at least one hour to take part.

Pay What You Think
Create your very own chinese lantern to take home with you as part of the Chinese Lantern Festival. Ages 3-10.

This classic Raymond Briggs tale is brought to life with puppetry, music, story telling and giggles by Pins & Needles Productions. Looks to be a wonderful experience and can be enjoyed by children aged 3+.

FREE / £5 depending on session
Alongside their regular sessions, the Scrapstore have a variety of inventive events over half term including print making and robots. A warehouse of junk is guaranteed to keep any child happy!

COLSTON HALL: SK Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids

15:00 – 15:45
This Guiness World Record Breaking beatboxer will wow you with his jaw dropping vocals. The show has received great reviews and is guaranteed to inspire!

M SHED: Holiday Family Fun

Pay What You Think
Inspired by the Wildlife Photographer of the Year event, let Rachel Carter help you create your own animal story. Ages 6+.

RWA: Fairy Tale Misfits: Collage Workshop
Tues 14th Feb
Various times depending on age
Get inspiration from the current Angela Carter exhibition and then rip, cut and stick to create your own characters. Led by BAM favourites, Let’s Make Art, this is guaranteed to be a lovely creative atmosphere.

RWA: Shadow Dance
Sat 18th Feb
Led by artist Layla Holzer, children will create their own shadow puppets and then animate them, again using the Angela Carter exhibition for inspiration. Ages 8+.

Sun 12th Feb – Tue 14th Feb
Various performance times
Using beautiful puppetry and story telling, this show explores themes of friendship and well-being.  This show is held at the 1532 Performing Arts Centre at Bristol Grammar School.

Wed 15th Feb to Mon 20th Feb
Various performance times
Take a trip through the universe on this unique theatrical experience for children. This show has rave reviews so, if your littlies have ever dreamt of flying to the moon this could be the ultimate half term treat! Under 3s go free.
